FAQ
Deliveries
What is the delivery time if I order a product from IOTA?
The delivery time is always indicated on the desired product page. This may vary depending on the model and color chosen. In the event of a delay, updated information will be communicated to you as soon as possible. Find more details on our T&Cs.
Are there any delivery charges?
Yes, IOTA charges a single delivery fee of CHF 100.- for the delivery of a large package throughout Switzerland. This amount may vary for any order abroad (EU, etc.). In all cases, this amount is specified at the time the order is placed.
Where is my package left upon delivery?
At your door (house or main entrance to your building), if it is located at the level of the access road.
Is it easy to move the package from an IOTA PT one table?
Yes, but moving the package requires the presence of two people. The package is not very heavy (28kg) but it is bulky and sensitive to shocks. It is therefore strongly recommended to move it carefully by two adults.
Can I return my IOTA product if it does not meet my expectations?
At IOTA we do our utmost to ensure that the product you receive at home fully meets your expectations in terms of quality and realism compared to our commercial visuals. Despite this, it is possible that upon receipt of the product, you may feel that it does not meet your expectations. In this case, IOTA allows its customers to return their order within 30 days after the delivery date. A fee (8% of the value paid when purchasing on the iota-solar.com website) will be charged for processing the return and repackaging the product. In the event of purchasing an IOTA product from a reseller, the general terms and conditions of sale of the final seller will apply. Find more details on our T&Cs .
Facility
Is it long and complicated to install my PT one table?
Ease of assembly is one of the central elements studied when designing the table. The aim is to make it take as little time as possible, and with as few tools as possible. In short, all you have to do is open the box on the ground, insert the two legs into the frame, tighten 4 self-tapping screws, turn the table over and plug in the socket. That's it; you're producing energy in 5 minutes of installation! We invite you to consult the detailed procedure in the instructions provided.
Can I view and track the production of my IOTA system?
Yes, IOTA systems are equipped with a module that allows you to monitor your production remotely and at any time. Simply connect your IOTA system to your Wi-Fi network and register on the dedicated application. That's it, you are connected. We invite you to consult the detailed procedure in the user manual provided.
Where is the ideal place to install my PT one table?
First of all, it is a table and can therefore be installed anywhere. Of course, its purpose is also to produce maximum energy. Ideally, it is therefore preferable to favor an outdoor installation (all electronic elements are resistant to outdoor use) in an area with minimal shade and with the longest possible exposure time to direct sunlight.
Which socket should I connect the plug of my IOTA system to?
The product will work by being connected to any socket in your household. For practical reasons, it is preferable to have an external socket nearby (cable length from the foot outlet: 4m).
How do I extend my table's cable if it is too short?
You can have it extended by an electrician. The warranty will remain valid in this case. Another possibility: use a standard extension cord specially designed for outdoor use (with protection rating IP55 or higher).
Production and earnings
How much energy will my PT one table produce?
A PT One is designed to produce between 350 and 450 kWh (depending on geographical location and ideal sun exposure). This energy will, in principle, be entirely consumed by your household (consumer strip; for example the refrigerator, Wi-Fi, standby appliances, etc.) and this production therefore deserves to be valued at the price of kWh that you would have consumed on the network. On average, the price of the network kWh is 40 cents (CHF) or 26 cents (Euro), i.e. a saving of approximately CHF 140.- to CHF 180.- per year.
Will I make my IOTA system profitable?
At IOTA, we do not design systems to be profitable but to last over time and allow everyone to produce their own low-carbon energy. Despite this, a PT One allows a saving of 140.- to 180.- per year on your electricity bill. It's up to you to do your calculations!
Administrative procedures
Do I need to declare my IOTA system to my energy distributor?
From a point of view, and according to ESTI (Swiss standards), the installation of a Plug&Play PV system only requires one notification obligation: it is necessary to inform your electricity distribution network manager in writing that you plan to connect such an installation, or to plug it into a domestic power outlet. According to the requirements of the Swiss electricity distributors, the declaration of conformity of the device must always be sent to the distribution network manager. You will find an announcement file in the package of your IOTA product upon delivery. All you have to do is complete it and send it to your electricity supplier.
Would I be eligible for a grant when purchasing my IOTA system?
No. In Switzerland, photovoltaic installations can only claim a federal subsidy from 2000Wc (PT One 400Wc). In addition, eligible production installations must be attached to a plot of land/building. Mobile installations do not benefit from subsidies. The Confederation therefore does not provide funds for incentive measures for "plug and play" solar installations. However, it is advisable to inquire with your municipality or canton whether financial support is available.
Can I deduct my IOTA purchase from taxes?
A priori, the investment in a "plug and play" solar installation cannot be deducted from taxes. Since tax legislation is governed at cantonal level, this question must be addressed to the competent authorities of the place of residence.
How many IOTA systems can I connect to my household electrical circuit?
In Switzerland, it is not possible to connect a "plug and play" solar installation of more than 600W (AC) (1 system or combined power of several devices). For example, the PT One model from IOTA has an output power of 400W (AC) and, therefore, it is only possible to connect one IOTA system for the installation to be considered "plug and play". However, it is of course possible to carry out higher power installations. However, these cannot be connected directly to a standard household electrical outlet. In this case, fixed installation work must be carried out and checked by professionals.
Use
Will I lose production when I eat at the table?
Yes, any shade will cause a decrease in production. However, it should be noted that outdoor tables are generally only used for short periods of time during the year. The table will produce during the 99% of the time you are not using it but your devices will need energy. On the other hand, we remind you that a passive/conventional table would not produce any energy in any case! So you are always a winner with a PT one table compared to a standard table.
Is the PT one easy to maintain/clean?
The solar table has been designed to withstand the ravages of time (powder-coated aluminum structure and glass top) and to be ultra-easy to maintain. A wipe with a damp cloth (window cleaner if necessary) is enough!
Since it is black, will my table top get hotter than a conventional table?
No, IOTA has carried out numerous comparative measurements and it turns out that the IOTA PT one table top heats up less overall than a wooden/metal table top (see the comparison below with two tables installed side by side). This is because, thanks to the upper glass of the photovoltaic module, your skin is not in direct contact with the black colour but with the glass which acts as an insulator for the lower black part.
Can I replace defective/broken parts?
Yes, IOTA systems have been designed so that the parts are easily replaceable. Even though we guarantee the best possible quality and resistance, it is always possible that a problem may occur. In this case, we repair or send you the replacement parts, when the product is under warranty. Out of warranty, you can order the desired part via our contact form or via our webshop. As far as possible, at IOTA we want to fight against planned obsolescence by guaranteeing that you can keep your system functional for as long as possible.
Will it be possible to upgrade my IOTA product?
Yes, our new products will evolve based on innovations and we hope that the systems already in operation can also evolve with, for example, new adaptable trays and micro-inverters. However, we do not guarantee this and we do not encourage the replacement of parts that are still functional.
Will my IOTA product withstand weather events?
The modules were subjected to the following tests: resistance to hail impacts up to 35 mm in diameter, resistance to glass breakage, fire resistance, corrosion protection and wind resistance.
Functioning
What is a “plug and play” solar production system?
With a Plug & Play solar installation, the electricity is injected into the building circuit without going through special control equipment or a meter (as is the case with a more powerful installation). This renewable energy can then power electrical and electronic devices that are running: fridge, router, battery chargers, etc. The electricity that is not consumed on site is not lost: it is made available to the network for subscribers in the neighborhood. Over the year, a 400-watt Plug & Play installation can produce around 400 kWh of electricity, or one fifth (20%) of what a typical 2-person household consumes (~2500 kWh per year) – provided, of course, that it is well oriented towards the sun and connected all year round.
Since I inject my production only on one phase, will only the devices connected to this same phase consume the energy produced?
It should be noted that, physically speaking, the solar electricity injected into the socket will only be available to devices that are on the same electrical phase (on the same large circuit breaker in the electrical panel). What is not consumed in the household is injected into the public network. However, most three-phase electricity meters installed in Switzerland make an accounting balance of the electricity that is consumed or injected on each of the 3 phases (balancing meter). In other words, they take into account the production of the Plug & Play installation, even if it is not connected to the same phase as the devices that consume electricity. On the other hand, if the solar installation produces, in total, more electricity than what is consumed in the household, the excess is often not counted, unless you are equipped with an old disk meter capable of turning backwards (not all old meters turn backwards) or a bidirectional balancing meter, which is installed when the owner already has a photovoltaic plant of more than 600wc, for example (consumption/injection).
Will I continue to produce (supply my household) in the event of a power outage?
In the event of a power outage or power cut in the public electricity grid, the inverter(s) of the Plug & Play photovoltaic solar system will automatically disconnect. The IOTA system(s) will therefore no longer supply electricity.
Is it possible to get electrocuted if I touch the conductive parts of my IOTA system plug?
No, not at all! The integrated electronics of the IOTA system instantly cut off electricity production as soon as the plug is disconnected from your mains socket.
Do I risk a short circuit or fire by connecting my IOTA system at home?
No. If there is a short circuit in the home network, the system shuts down within milliseconds. The microinverter of your IOTA product also has an overheating safety feature that switches off the system in an emergency.
Recycling
How will I be able to recycle my IOTA system?
The parts that make up the IOTA systems are easily separable to facilitate the perfect recycling of the parts. The structure is entirely made of aluminum (easily recyclable materials), the electronics will be deposited with the electrical devices to be recycled and the tray will be taken back and, according to our sources, integrated into the manufacturing sector of insulating glass wool (identical to the recycling of car windshields).
